Electric Tractors Gaining Attention in the Ozarks
NIXA, Mo. -- A step in technology for making your yard or
farm top notch and helping the environment, one blade at a time. Alan
Lionudakus lives in Nixa but his newest idea, A.C. Lectric, is taking off
across the country. "I have
numerous, numerous emails from many states," says Lionudakus. Lionudakus
is hoping to bring back the electric garden tractor. He says it’s a first, in
more than four decades, since Elec-Trak went out of business and stopped
production. "There's not that many out there, a General Electric
Elec-Trak. After seeing that and working on several of them, I got very into it
and there's none being built." A.C.
Lectric tractor runs off six batteries and a simple plug. "The batteries
are six Trojan deep cycles. The tractor runs on 36 volts DC and the winch is
for lifting attachments out the front, rear, bottom," explains Lionudakus.
He says the attachments make it more than just a garden tractor. "There's
an electric rotary tiller, there's a snow blower, a snow plow, cultivator, a
plow, a rotary tiller, hand rotary tiller, there's a chainsaw, and the list is
endless." With zero gas, it’s much better for the environment. "There's
no gas, there's no oil changes, there's no filters, no spark plugs, no carburetors.
It’s very quiet, there's no pollution. It can be used indoors in a
warehouse
"The money that you are going to save on gas and oil and maintenance." Whether Lionudakis makes a living or continues this hobby, he is excited about the future of tractors. "This started off as a hobby and it looks like there are a lot of people interested in it."
